ADA Transition Plan

Did you know that any public entity with 50 or more employees must meet requirements set forth by Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)? Requirements include designating an ADA coordinator, establishing a grievance procedure, establishing a transition plan, and performing periodic self-evaluations.

To ensure all persons have accessibility to public goods and services, the following categories should be included in the transition plan:

  1. Communication, Information, and Facility Signage
  2. Building Facilities and Related Parking Lots/Facilities
  3. Pedestrian Facilities/ Public Rights-of-Way

The transition plan should identify improvements necessary for accessibility and set a schedule for improvements.

Not sure where to start? Download ODOT’s Transition Plan template and start identifying locations that require improvements to meet ADA requirements.
